Many people had the unfortunate opportunity to face acne in their teenage years. While I never had issues with my skin as a kid, I have suffered through adult acne for the past few years. As part of my journey to a natural lifestyle I decided to quit taking birth control. After researching about birth control, I made the choice that I no longer wanted to pump my body full of artificial hormones. This resulted in horrible breakouts that were embarrassing and painful.
I started using acne face wash, toner, and moisturizer. While it did help my skin, it also wasn't good for it. An esthetician friend of mine explained to me that acne treatments are damaging to your skin and not a good solution for the long run. I then started purchasing many OTC "natural" face washes and treatments. This just made my issues worse to the point where I couldn't take it anymore.
That's when I started doing hours and hours worth of research to develop a natural treatment plan that would help my skin. I found many useful resources, and decided to immediately begin using baking soda masks (just baking soda with enough water to make a paste) on my face each night for 20+ minutes. I also read that charcoal soap was a great option to treat acne-prone skin. I began making my own all natural activated charcoal soap to use, with both tea tree essential oil and eucalyptus essential oil. Additionally, every few days I began using apple cider vinegar as a toner to deep clean my pores. This ritual I found to be drying to my skin, especially living in the mountains, so I began using coconut oil twice a day as a moisturizer. The antibacterial properties of the coconut oil naturally wards off the residue in your pores that cause acne.
After a year+ of following this ritual, I have seen a vast improvement on my skin. This is one instance that I really wish I had taken before and after pictures! Everyone's skin reacts differently to products, but when you put good quality, all natural products on your skin you can rest assured that you are treating your body properly and not harming your skin. It is much better for you than the OTC products you find at the drug store, and definitely better for you than taking birth control. It is also important to note that some organic or all natural products you can find in stores have ingredients that are still harmful to your face and not something you would want to put on your body.
I am not a dermatologist, but this did work for me, and I recommend you finding your own routine that works for you. I do sell all natural charcoal soaps if you think that might be a good option for you. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your own stories as you find what works best for you!
